Rock Climbing in Cambodia:

A small group of avid climbers spent their weekends and holidays for two years developing the areas highlighted on this website and the subsequent guidebook. These folks have all now moved on to other parts of the world, but we didn’t want our efforts to be lost to time so this website and guidebook were created to pass on to the next generation of climbers. Many of the climbing sites have just begun to be explored and the possibilities for new routes are endless. We hope that others will follow in our footsteps!

This website is your porthole to the opportunities that exist in Cambodia. We have included brief information about the areas that have been developed in Cambodia as well as some information about areas that we hope will be developed in years to come. As we get more information, we will post it here, so please send us your photos and stories.

Guidebook:

Rock Climbing in Cambodia© is the only guidebook about climbing in Cambodia. This book features detailed site maps and descriptions, directions to the climbing areas, considerations for travelers, and suggestions for local attractions. Over the past 10 years climbers have come and gone from Cambodia leaving their legacy. This guidebook is a compilation of the efforts of persons past and present that have expanded the sport in SE Asia.

This guidebook is intended to introduce those interested in additional locations in SE Asia to climb.

Highlights of a few climbing areas:

Kampot:

Limestone cliffs, friendly inquisitive locals all within a short drive of the beaches of Kep and Kampot, this area has great developed climbs and so many more opportunities. Located a few hours south of Phnom Penh just north of Kampong Trach, you will need your own transportation and an educated local or the guidebook to get you to the sites. The area boasts 4 distinct climbing areas (Sharks Fin, Cloister, Spirits Rest and Fish Bowl) spread over an area full of limestone cliffs and a large Buddhist pagoda. Book lodging in Kep and make a weekend out of your journey.

Kampong Cham:

Within a short drive of Phnom Penh, this is the most frequented of sites in Cambodia. With over 20 designated routes, many of which are bolted, this is the perfect site for a day excursion away from the hustle and bustle of Phnom Penh. Located just off Route 6 (the road to Siem Reap or Kampong Cham) it’s easy to enjoy a day in the cool breezes of this well situated site.
